Do you remember the first day of your school, the first time you ride a bicycle, or the first day at your job?
I guess it was terrifying, most of the “first times” are. Just like that, you’ve had and will have plenty of first times in your life.
“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.”
-Leo Tolstoy
Now, in a simple word, that phenomenon is called ‘Change’. And in this article, I’ll be explaining why change is good for you.
As I mentioned earlier, change can be pretty hard and terrifying. That is because your brain is so used to doing the same old things for bazillion times, it sees the new things or changes in your life as an enemy entering your territory.
Sometimes, change might seem like a reset button, but really it’s like taking one step back while taking two steps forward.
Although it can be challenging to go through changes in your life, change is good for you and has very positive consequences.
7 Reasons Why Change is Good for You
Most people see change as a negative thing in their life. They try to run away from it instead of embracing it and turning it on their sides.
However, I personally believe that change is good and not only good but also a big aspect that positively affects your life.
So, here are the 7 reasons why change is good for you:
1. You know your capabilities
“You never know if you never try.” When you were just learning to ride a bicycle, did you think that you could ride it without someone holding you and your bicycle?
Or when you decided to take swimming lessons, did you believe that you’d be able to swim and not drown? I could give hundreds of examples like these.
However, what I’m trying to say is when you decide to start a new thing in your life, it always looks hard and unattainable in the beginning.
But, over time as you get used to it and feel confident doing it, you’d know what you are really capable of.
2. You get out of your comfort zone
In today’s modern world, I see lots of people specialized in a certain sector or field.
For instance, a computer programmer might be only focused on the computer world, s/he may not really be familiar with other parts of life such as economics or history.
That being said, we are so used to our one-sector-focused life, we don’t try to get to know about other things.
When you are in your comfort zone, you follow the same routine every day. But, when there’s a change in your life, you get obliged to get out of your comfort zone.
Thus, change helps you to do things you never expected to do.
“To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” -Winston Churchill
3. You see things from a different perspective
Change means you do different things or do things differently than usual. For example, think of yourself as a teacher, and you decide to learn a new language.
Now you become a student from being a teacher. And you start seeing what it feels like to be a student again when you go from being a teacher to a student.
In other words, change forces you to look at things from a different and fresh perspective. When you experience certain changes in your life, it helps you to see the world from others points of view.
4. You find who you really are
When you are going through a change, your mind expands in ways that it never had in the past. You learn about your boundaries and limitations.
We start to find out what things we can handle and what we can’t. We figure out what you are really made of.
Getting to know about yourself in detail, including your limitations, what you can and cannot deal allows you to discover a better path to take in your life.
Therefore, a change in your life helps you to understand better about what you are doing, and not doing is affecting your future.
5. You become more flexible
Try to remember the first time you injured yourself, you burnt your fingers playing with fire, or broke your arms.
Was that the last time you injured yourself? I assume not. But I’m sure that it taught you something. The “first times” always teach you a lesson that you won’t forget for the rest of your life.
So, whenever you go through a change you learn to embrace problems in a way that seems strange but acceptable and possible.

Frequent changes make you easily adapt to new situations, new environments, and new people.
As a result, it helps you to be more confident as you walk into the next uncomfortable situation and not be scared when something unexpectedly changes.
6. You experience more
You never know what new things each change may bring. When you are open to change, you are more likely to say yes to lots of things.
You are open to more experiences and opportunities in your life. You get the opportunity to meet more people and get a chance to be in different situations.
When you include all of these things in your life, you will have a more interesting life and you’ll have plenty of chances to experience new things in life.
Similarly, when you change your usual path, there will be lots of different opportunities waiting for you.
“One child, one teacher, one pen, and one book can change the world” -Malala Yousafzai
7. You become grateful
I’ve seen lots of people taking things, no matter how big or small, for granted. They’re not grateful enough for what they have in their life.
They’re unaware that not everyone in this world has the pleasure of having what they’ve got. Meanwhile, frequent change in your life can remind you of how much you have.
When you go through changes, you start to appreciate things that you once took granted for. Thus, change is also a chance to remember that you are capable and whole as a human being.
