7 things to do when things go wrong

We all have had days when things go wrong and nothing seems to be on our side, not a single thing. First, you get up late and find there’s no power, so no shower, and your phone battery’s zero.

Then you arrive at your office and somehow you’ve forgotten to prepare that important presentation your boss asked you to make. And after all of that, you finally return to your home to just lie down.

Don’t feel sorry for yourself if you have chosen the wrong road. Turn around.

– Edgar Cayee

But, then it suddenly hits you, it’s your marriage anniversary and you haven’t even got to say ‘hi’ to your spouse. As I said, not a single thing works out as you wish. So, when things go wrong and you have no idea what to do, that’s when you start to panic and stress.

Don’t you just hate those days when no matter how hard of an effort you make, things just don’t go as planned? Don’t worry, you’re not the only one.

Everyone has those days from time to time, but sometimes, no matter how much you want it not to happen, it happens anyway. And when things go wrong, we all want to find the cure to the problem as soon as possible.

7 Things to Do When Things Go Wrong

If you’ve lived long enough on this planet, you’ll probably know that life’s not fair. So when things go wrong, we just can’t solve those problems we’re going through.

As a result, we panic, throw our tantrums at others or run away from the problem, itself. Those kinds of days are almost inevitable.

Even though you can’t avoid it from happening, you can certainly prepare yourself to be strong and face it with courage. So, here are the 7 things you can do when things go wrong:

1. Accept the truth

Quotes on what to do when things go wrong

I know one of the hardest things to do in life is to accept the truth for what it is. Life’s not always rainbows and butterflies, there are storms and monsters, too.

That being said, you won’t always receive good news only in your life, there will also be bad news. Now when things go wrong, it might be hard to process at the beginning.

But once you accept it for what it is, you’ll find some comfort and see that life’s a combination of both good and bad, plus and minus, happy and sad.

2. Express your feelings

As I mentioned earlier, most people, when things go wrong, run away from the problem, instead of facing it. You can’t always feel positive and happy emotions only, but negative and sad ones too.

And whenever we come across these negative thoughts and emotions, we tend to become uncomfortable. As soon as they pop up in our head, we either take, reject, or change them depending on whether we like it or not.

However, all emotions, either negative or positive carry useful messages that help us to know more about ourselves. So, when things go wrong in your life, you need to express and confront your emotions instead of avoiding and running away from it.

3. Focus on positive

inspirational quotes

Getting distracted by negative thoughts and feelings is perhaps one of the main obstacles we struggle with when things go wrong in our life.

When things seem to fall out of place, you become too busy focusing on your panicked thoughts and you can’t concentrate on more important things.

However, it’s normal to let yourself be sucked by negative thoughts and feelings on your mind when things go wrong. So, instead, pay attention to those thoughts and as you recognize them, try to change them into positive statements.

This will distract your mind from dwelling on the negative aspects when things go wrong.

4. Think of yourself in 10 years

I avoid looking back, I prefer good memories to regrets.

– Grace Kelly

Now, this is my favorite and also the most effective technique that I use when things go wrong in my life. Every time something bad happens to me, I try to fast forward the time and see myself in 10 years.

I can’t exactly tell you what I see in 10 years, but I certainly do not see any of those problems I’m currently having. When you apply this practice, you will realize that whatever you’re going through is temporary and it won’t be there to haunt you in your future.

5. Practice mindfulness

motivating quotes

One of the main reasons we feel stressed and panicked when things go wrong is because we overthink about what has already happened, and what will happen.

Mindfulness is a technique that helps you stay in the present moment, instead of getting lost in the future that you can’t control, and the past that you can’t change.

It’s normal to be nervous and stressed when nothing is going as you have planned. But, it’s equally important to live in the present and not get lost in the past or overthink about the future.

So, it’s very crucial to keep yourself in the present when things are going wrong in your life.

6. Take a break

I’ve often noticed so many people getting stressed out about very small things. And although it might not seem like a big deal to me, it is for those people.

That is because they are so overworked and overwhelmed by their daily lives. Lots of people, these days work multiple jobs or multiple shifts and they’re working 24/7 without resting.

As a result, that not only affects your physical health but mental health as well. On the other hand, when you take a break from time to time, you’re strong and have the energy to face a single problem without seeing it as a mountain of problems.

7. Be nice to others

when things go wrong quotes

When things go wrong in your life, you can lose control of yourself. And when that happens, you tend to be angry and do or say things that you don’t mean to others, which is completely normal.

However, when you do that, it not only harms you but also others around you. So whenever you feel like things are not going your way, first try to get control over your flowing emotions.

Second, try to be nice and kind to others. Now, this not only makes them feel better but doing so can also help you shift your focus from your problems to their happiness.
